以下的歌詞包孕了許多朗朗上口且傳頌陌頭巷尾的詩句。在賽門與葛芳柯1966年的「Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme香菜、鼠尾草、迷迭香與百里香」專輯中，即援用了很多這些詩句，也讓這首歌一舉成名。當賽門在英國觀光時，自馬丁卡西--英國馳名的民謠歌手的地方習得這首歌翻譯但是，儘管賽門無恥的在這首歌中大量利用了卡西的編曲，卻未在專輯中說起卡西之名。
